Ecological transition for the built environment: natural insulating materials in green building rating systems

The regenerative concept of design and construction is gaining relevance, as it changing the sustainability paradigm toward ecological transition for built environment, representing a track on which economic financial support policies are currently being routed. One ways to achieve use sustainable insulating materials in buildings. In addition, certification systems have been developed actualize renovate sustainability. literature review showed that no studies deal with influence different green building rating systems. This research applies ITACA LEED protocols quantify impact levels. Starting from comparison between these analysis credits related within LEED, were applied an existing multi-story residential by varying envelope, such glass wool, expanded polystyrene (EPS), two types natural (e.g., mineralized wood fiber kenaf). results every envelope configuration obtained both protocols, except EPS, did not obtain LEED. However, although kenaf can be considered materials, they do reach maximum achievable category score influenced material choice.
